W-w-whoa, two pages in one day? Since the title page doesn’t up the page count it technically doesn’t count as an update, so here’s a “proper” update. I figured posting them both on the same day would make up for the fact that this page consists of two mere establishing panels; even if I sacrificed live, wriggling brain cells to get these done in time. That said, I think the first panel is probably the best establishing panel I’ve drawn to date.
One thing that’s always bugged me about Pokémon is how all the forests look like well-groomed city parks; the grass is of a uniform length, none of the trees have vines or fungi growing on them and the plants look the same no matter what region the story takes place in. I draw the forests in Dimentiara very thick and overgrown and unfriendly-looking with weird foliage that changes in different parts of the setting to make it look like an untamed world that could reach out and kill you at any moment.
The little ghost story about the Cryptic Forest in the page captions wasn’t in the original script – I invented it on a whim out of pure worldbuilding indulgence. Whether or not it’s true is up to the reader to decide…
I get the feeling things aren’t going to turn out well for Ben. XD
One thing I’ve always admired about this series and setting is that there’s always more going on behind the scenes. The world doesn’t revolve around the protagonists, and all manner of stories are going on somewhere in the background, from slice of life to political intrigue, to horror.
<3 messy foresty forests. The groomed ones are easier for cheap animation, I'm sure, but no need for comics to be stuck with that too.
